Posture Correction Program

Spine illustrationGrowing up you may have heard your mother repeatedly tell you to stand up straight. After all, good posture exudes confidence. It’s also essential to the alignment of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves in the body.

The Problem With Poor Posture

While a head forward, shoulders slumped posture not only looks terrible, it can cause many different issues. These include:

  • Fatigue
  • Strain
  • Pain
  • Burning

  • Pinched nerves
  • TMJ
  • Fibromyalgia

Poor posture also can cause neck muscles to lose blood and become damaged.

How Does Posture Correction Work?

At Crawford Chiropractic, we use a specialized program to populate the patient’s posture number and learn how much pressure weight is on the patient’s spine. To start, we take a front facing picture and a profile picture of the patient, and we input it into our posture program. It then calculates the patient’s posture number. It also calculates the two physical stresses that can wear out the body: muscle tension and compressive forces.

We review this information with the patient and show them the stress that is being put on their vertebra. We create a personalized treatment for our patients participating in posture correction. Along with chiropractic care, we provide exercises based on their posture number to help reverse forward head posture.

Teens looking at phoneWho Can Benefit From the Program?

Those who experience the following can benefit from this technology: fatigue, neck pain and back pain. Also, people who frequently use digital devices should consider posture correction. That’s because the various gadgets that we all use, from tablets to smartphones, can wreak havoc on our posture.

Just look around, and you’ll see people everywhere glancing down at their phones or tablets. You may wonder why it’s an issue. The average head weighs approximately 10 to 12 pounds. When a neck bends forward 60 degrees, as is usually the case when we spend time on our phones, the effective stress on the neck increases to 60 pounds! That’s why addressing posture is vital.
